MacOS
When in 1984 Apple Computer introduced the Macintosh the whole computer industry was turned upside down. It was capable of displaying graphics and text at the same time - something that other PCs couldn't do then. This advantage was used in the graphical user interface which was also revolutionary. Ever since Apple came up with revulotionay ideas and many of them have become industry standards like QuickTime.
The ease of use of the Macintosh is unmatched although many have tried to copy it. Most of all by Mircosoft but they will never manage to come up with anything anywhere near the Mac. If they would spend more on programmers than on PR, then maybe. Anyway, even the best OS is not perfect. It lacks features like preemptive multitasking and memory protection which will be introduced to the Macintosh community the first time with Rhapsody the next step into the right future. But keep your eyes open for MacOS X which will esentually be the Mac interface on top of a Mach 3 UNIX kernel. You will get the full power of UNIX and the ease of use of the Mac. Almost to good to be true.
With the new PowerMacintosh G3 Apple showed another milestone in the computer market. These machines are up to twice as fast as the fastest Pentium II machines and a lot easier to use. If you want to get your work done fast without reinstalling and reconfiguring all the time the Macintosh should be your choice. And against to common belief there are games for the Mac. Not as many as for PCs but they are usually more elaborate and run smoother.
